]]> 643 Update on the Free Little Library https://christiansciencedenton.com/2020/08/28/update-on-the-free-little-library/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=update-on-the-free-little-library Fri, 28 Aug 2020 14:36:51 +0000 https://christiansciencedenton.com/?p=573 The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Denton’s Free Little Library is a very active place.  A few months ago we began to add can goods with a phone number to call for prayerful support to the free Little Library.   The food is gone every week.  A free little library user added some can goods on their own as well –  a very kind gesture to help a neighbor in need.

The Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Eddy has been replaced 9 times!

Spanish language Science and Health, bible and kids books have also been shared through the library.

Everyday there are new books taken and added.

We are making a difference!

]]> 573 Feed the Hungry; Heal the Heart https://christiansciencedenton.com/2020/08/17/feed-the-hungry-heal-the-heart/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed-the-hungry-heal-the-heart Mon, 17 Aug 2020 14:25:32 +0000 https://christiansciencedenton.com/?p=548 The First Church of Christ Scientist, Denton is loving our neighbors, in this time of need as we move into the school year still under the stresses of the COVID Pandemic.  The membership has made two more food deliveries to the Denton Community Food Center.  One delivery of 82 pounds and another 138 Pounds of food was donated  last week.

Thank you to all who donated food and to Joseph for making the delivery.

The Denton Community Food Center is run by an all volunteer staff so that all contributions can go directly to those who are in need. The First Church of Christ Scientist, Denton will continue to find ways to reach out to the Food Center to Feed the Hungry and heal the Heart.  ( a quote from a Hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal called Feed my Sheep by Mary Baker Eddy)

Thank you to all who have donated can good and other foods.  Your gift is appreciated.

The Denton Community Food Center is run by an all volunteer staff so that all contributions can go directly to those who are in need.  There are no salaries to be paid and very little overhead expenses as they are housed in the Schmitz family building.  They do pay for some utilities and minor expenses.  But that leaves the majority of donations for helping others.  They are very happy to have us as a partner.

]]> 433 Girl Scout Badge Workshop on Eddy and The CS Monitor https://christiansciencedenton.com/2020/03/01/girl-scout-badge-workshop-on-eddy-and-the-cs-monitor/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=girl-scout-badge-workshop-on-eddy-and-the-cs-monitor Mon, 02 Mar 2020 02:05:46 +0000 https://christiansciencedenton.com/?p=407 2020 is the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.  What better way to commemorate this anniversary than with a workshop on Mary Baker Eddy and her newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, for the future generation of women in Girl Scouts. The workshop was held at the Christian Science Church in Denton on Saturday, Feb 29th.

The girls learned about Eddy’s life in a video provided by the Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity. We discussed the challenges and obstacles she faced and overcame to share her ideas with the world.  Each girl worked on a cross stitch inspired by one in Eddy’s home which read: “Do right, Fear not”. 20200229 154711

Eddy is the only woman to found a newspaper that grew into a news operation that is still going strong today. That paper, The Christian Science Monitor,  has a weekly feature called People Making a Difference.  After sharing several examples of this feature, the girls wrote how they would like to make a difference in the world and then acted out their ideas in a skit.

The workshop ended with all eating  Eddy’s favorite food: ice cream.
